This well regarded independent Food Service company operates within the B&I (workplace) sector of the hospitality industry and boasts an impressive client portfolio of household names across financial services; banking; consumer goods; retail; tech, sport and education. Trading through the pandemic has been and continues to be difficult with wider socioeconomic factors in play affecting people’s return to their workplace and what that will look like in the future. Businesses are clearly having to adapt and their catering proposition (as part of their wider employee welfare programme) forms part of that. The functions of Operations, Finance, Food, Sales, Tech and People are all well-established roles but there feels like a gap in the Marketing/Comms/Brand side of the business.
This is a new role for the business and will sit on the Exec Board. The key responsibilities will include working alongside the MD’s to evolve the brand strategy – this could involve a full repositioning and you will pull together a small team that has worked fairly independently hitherto. You will drive the evolution of the social media strategy, use the routes to market that are available to you and measure impact. You will also fulfil a role as brand ambassador/guardian of how the business communicates with its customers and teams, feeding back to the exec team, protecting culture and principles. You will challenge and contribute in terms of online presence – website, SEO, etc. Whilst the business works with an external PR company you will also be responsible for reputation management.
This role would have a strong contribution to both the business development and food functions in the business, as the essence of food service is the constant negotiation and renegotiation of contracts over a 3-5 year period so how the brand is perceived on that journey is very much part of this.
You will bring free-thinking, opinion and challenge the status quo. You will be the person to bounce ideas off, will naturally be viewed as the senior person and subject matter expert. You will need to quickly grasp the nuance of food service, its customers and what this particular business is trying to achieve to stand out in this crowded space. You will definitely need to be nimble, adapt easily to change as change will be the norm! The Exec Board is a strong group of individuals so you will demonstrate great leadership in terms of the ability to manage a team, get people to listen, communicate a vision. You will be a foodie!
